An original hymn about God’s work through baptism

1 What comfort my baptism brings.
O my soul finds a refuge,
From the doubts that the devil will most surely send;
Given grace in the washing and the Word.
2 Surely from when I was conceived,
Sin had severed communion.
Fully dead in my sin I was God's enemy.
Who could save me from this body of death?
3 Left to my own desires I'm lost.
I can not turn and choose good.
For my nature will always choose to run from God.
Praise the Lord salvation's outside of me!
4 Baptized into the death of Christ,
Sin no longer controls me.
Through the work of the Spirit also raised with Christ,
Given freedom to follow God's command.
5 Baptism now appeals to God.
For an unburdened conscience.
Just as Noah was raised through water in the ark,
I am lifted through water out of death.
6 Thankful to have the gift so free,
Of forgiveness and Spirit.
Through the power of the washing I have new desires.
Remind me of this living truth.
